Stitches

"No fair! Last time you said go and that's why you won!"

"Same thing gonna happen when you say it first."

"So!"

"Fine, how about we count together. Don't cheat though."

"Deal, I won't cheat. I don't need to cheat to win", Josh said proudly.

"Whatever, get ready."

I think this is the third time we are going to race. I'm not tired, I'll beat him easy.

"Okay, let's start counting to three."

Josh nodded.

"One...two...three!"

We were off.  To win we had to go around the corner of the sidewalk and pass the fire hydrant.

"Ha! I'm winning!"

"Nah uh! Not when you aren't watching where you're going", I said.

I saw he was heading for the curb edge. He looked down but wasn't able to stop in time, I took this chance to pass him.

"See, I'm going to win."

I kept running until I passed the fire hydrant. I noticed it was quiet, no Josh.

"Josh", I called out.

He wasn't behind me. I ran back to see he was sitting on the sidewalk with his hand on his head.

"Josh, what happened?"

As I got a closer look I could see he was bleeding a lot.

"Josh! We have to get help!"

"No! My mom is gonna kill me", he shouted even though he was crying at the same time.

"So! You're bleeding a lot, that's really bad! What if your eyebrow is gone forever", I said.

"Don't say that Tyler! I want the girl in art class to like me more, I know she already does. I want her to be my girlfriend."

"Okay then, you need to go to the doctor so he can fix it."

He sniffled.

"Fine! Just don't tell mom we were racing. She already told us to not do that around here."

"I won't. She'll kill me too."

He finally let out a small laugh.

There's no way I'll let my best friend get in trouble alone. If we get in trouble, it's always together.
